The Bermuda Environmental Sustainability Taskforce [BEST] has launched a campaign highlighting personal protective equipment [PPE] pollution, urging the community to use reusable/washable masks when possible and properly dispose of single use masks.
The campaign poster says, “Fish, turtles, and other marine life don’t need PPE plastic pollution. Yet disposable masks are finding their way into our oceans where they litter the seafloor, wash up on our beaches, and entangle fish, seabirds, turtles, and other marine life.
“Many contain polypropylene, a type of plastic that can take up to 500 years to biodegrade. Please dispose of your mask properly, or better yet, use a reusable/washable mask.”
