The following advert appeared in the RG and Bda Sun on Wednesday 13 Nov 2013. It lists the companies, organisations, entertainers and special individuals who were core volunteers in the Southlands Park spruce-up held the week of 21 – 26 October.

Southlands Spruce Up and Open House next week

Not too late to volunteer!! Call the BEST office at 292 3782 or report to the main house, Southlands, on Mon, Tues or Wed afternoon. See below for more details.

Spruce Up

Monday, 21st through Wednesday 23rd October from 12 noon until 5pm each day (Thursday 24 Oct and Friday  25 Oct as alternate rain dates). We are asking that everyone check in at 12:00 at the main house (just follow the road in from either entrance) and fill in the sign-up sheet. Drew Petit from Conservation Services will be there to give you your assignment for the afternoon. We are requesting that students steer clear of the heavy machinery and equipment.

Open House

Saturday, 26th October from 12 noon until 4pm after which there will be a  bonfire on the beach across the street. Again, we are asking that everyone check in at 12:00 at the main house (just follow the road in from either entrance) and fill in the sign-up. We will be needing at least 8-12 volunteers for the afternoon to assist us with parking, manning the tents etc.

Parking

Volunteers can park across the street from the west entrance (there will be signs)

Water

Fresh water will be available at the main house

 Bathrooms

There will be two bathrooms at the site. One will be located at the main house and the other one will be located in the parking lot across the street

REMEMBER TO WEAR/BRING MOSQUITO REPELLANT AND TO WEAR LONG SLEEVES , PANTS AND A HAT. All other supplies such as gloves, shovels etc. will be provided.

This project is a collaboration of BEST and the Department of Conservation Services and we want to take this opportunity to thank you for volunteering to help us out with this very important project. Having Southlands turned into a park is something that will benefit all of us for years to come.
